Razz Poker and Your Options Now

Razz (or seven-card stud low) is a type of poker in which the best low-combination from ace to five wins at the showdown. Throughout the deal, players receive seven cards in Razz, but five-card low-combinations are used to determine the winner. Please note that unlike the seven-card herd of high-low or omaha high-low, there is no “eight or better” requirement for winning a pot in razz.

At times, the “California” system (or “from Ace to Five”) of the seniority of low combinations is used. Straights and flushes are not taken into account, and aces always play like low cards, so the best combinations are the “wheel” (from the English “wheel”): 5, 4, 3, 2, A. So that you better understand how the combinations are ranked, we Here are examples of combinations that are arranged in increasing order (combination 1 almost never wins the pot, and combination 12 is the strongest):

  • 3, 3, 3, 5, 5

  • K, K, 4, 3, 2

  • 2, 2, 7, 6, 5

  • A, A, T, 9, 8

  • K, Q, J, T, 9

  • K, Q, J, T, 7

  • 9, 8, 7, 6, 5

  • 9, 7, 6, 5, 3

  • 9, 7, 6, 5, A

  • 6, 5, 4, 3, 2

  • 6, 4, 3, 2, A

  • 5, 4, 3, 2, A

Please note that the seniority of unpaired low-combinations is determined from the highest card to the youngest. For example, the combination of 10 is known as the “six low”, because it has the highest card six. Hand number 9 is the “nine low”, and hand number 5 is the “king of the low.” Close low combos are named on the following cards. So combination 11 is called “six-four-low”, and it is better than combination 10 “six-five-low.”

Razz Rules

Ante

Before the distribution begins, all players place a bet called ante (its exact size depends on the game and is usually displayed in the table name). This is the cost of participating in the distribution. For example, in a game with bets of $ 1 / $ 2, the ante will be $ 0.15.

Third street

Each player initially receives three cards two face down and one face up. In razz, the player with the highest open card is the “bring-in”, which makes the first move. This player must make another mandatory bet (the size of which also depends on the game) or, if desired, make a full bet in accordance with the step of a small bet. A move moves the player to the player at the poker table clockwise until the completion of the bid in one round.

Fourth street

Each player receives one more open card, which is called “fourth street”. The player with the strongest (that is, the youngest) open hand goes first. Usually, this player can either check or bet. In the case of a bet, this will be a small bet ($ 1 in the game $ 1 / $ 2). Next are the usual auctions.

Fifth street

Each player receives one more open card, which is called “fifth street.” And again the first player to go is whose open hand is the strongest. For example, a player with a high eight will walk first if the other players do not have a pair of sevens or a lady high. A player with a high eight can check or bet a large amount.

From the fifth street to the end of the deal, all bets and raises are made in increments of a large bet (for example, $ 2 in a game of $ 1 / $ 2).
